Fuel Prices Increase in Malawi Starting April 1 The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has announced new fuel prices that starts today on 1 April 2026, following a review by its Energy Pricing Committee. The authority explained that the changes were necessary because the international prices of petroleum products have increased in recent months. According to MERA, the price of petrol has increased from MK4,965 to MK6,672 per litre, representing a 34 percent increase. Diesel has also gone up from MK4,945 to MK6,687 per litre, which is a 35 percent increase. The regulator said the increase is linked to higher costs of importing fuel into the country. Kerosene prices have also been adjusted upwards. The price has increased from MK3,200 to MK5,824 per litre, which represents an 82 percent increase.
