Parliament of Malawi is in mourning of the sudden passing of Honorable  Joyce Chitsuro.    By Maggie Msongole The Parliament of Malawi has expressed profound shock and regret at the death of Honourable Joyce Chitsulo, the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture.  Honourable  Chitsulo, also served as a Member of Parliament for Mwanza West. She died yesterday, Friday, June 6th, 2025, in Lilongwe. Elected as the MP for Mwanza West in 2019, Honourable Chitsulo was known as a strong advocate for her constituents, consistently championing issues of national interest and development.  Her dedication extended to her role as Chairperson of the Public Appointments Committee and Chair of Chairpersons, where she was praised for her exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the integrity of Parliament. DPP Condemns Arrest of Jappie Mhango, Labels It Intimidation Tactic By Maggie Msongole   The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has condemned the arrest of its Vice President for the North, Jappie Mhango, by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), describing the move as politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate opposition figures ahead of the upcoming general elections. In a statement released on Monday, the DPP questioned the timing of Mhango’s arrest, which relates to alleged misconduct during his tenure as Minister of Transport and Public Works between 2016 and 2017. The party raised concerns over why the ACB is acting on allegations that are over seven years old, just as Malawi prepares for a crucial election expected within the next 100 days. The opposition party accused the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of using state institutions such as the ACB and Police to suppress dissent and target political rivals. Teen Found Dead in Suspected Suicide in Masasa Township By Maggie Msongole A 17 Year-old boy, identified as Micca Gama, was found dead in a suspected case of suicide in Masasa Township, Mzuzu, on Monday morning.  Gama’s lifeless body was discovered inside his home with a deep cut to the throat, raising concerns and prompting an ongoing police investigation. According to initial reports, the teenager lived alone and had previously expressed suicidal thoughts to friends and neighbours particularly when intoxicated. On the morning of the incident, Gama reportedly left his home around 8 a.m. to drink alcohol and returned approximately two hours later. Not long after his return, neighbours reported hearing unusual noises coming from inside his locked house, which led to the tragic discovery. Mzuzu Police spokesperson Cecilia Mfune confirmed the incident and said the body was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. “While early...
