Teen Found Dead in Suspected Suicide in Masasa Township
A 17 Year-old boy, identified as Micca Gama, was found dead in a suspected case of suicide in Masasa Township, Mzuzu, on Monday morning.
Gama’s lifeless body was discovered inside his home with a deep cut to the throat, raising concerns and prompting an ongoing police investigation. According to initial reports, the teenager lived alone and had previously expressed suicidal thoughts to friends and neighbours particularly when intoxicated.
On the morning of the incident, Gama reportedly left his home around 8 a.m. to drink alcohol and returned approximately two hours later. Not long after his return, neighbours reported hearing unusual noises coming from inside his locked house, which led to the tragic discovery.
Mzuzu Police spokesperson Cecilia Mfune confirmed the incident and said the body was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
“While early signs point to suicide, we are awaiting medical confirmation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding his death,” Mfune said.
She added that investigations are ongoing.
In the wake of the incident, authorities are urging the public especially young people to seek help when dealing with emotional or psychological challenges.
“We encourage anyone going through difficult times to reach out to churches, social welfare offices, or the police victim support unit for support,” Mfune said.
Micca Gama hailed from Pamande Village, under Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhatabay District.
