 NDP Cheers Chihana’s Appointment as Malawi’s Second VP

The National Development Party (NDP) is celebrating the appointment of hon. Enock kamzingeni Chakufwa Chihana as the new second  President of the Republic of Malawi.

​In a statement released today, October 6, 2025, NDP President Hon. Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo sent his sincere congratulations to Chihana.





​The NDP president called the appointment a "well-deserved recognition" of Chihana’s strong leadership and dedication to the nation. The party views his elevation as a win for Malawi’s democracy and a move to value talented individuals from all regions of the country.

​President Mwenifumbo also thanked His Excellency President Professor Peter Arthur Mutharika for his "visionary decision." The NDP stated that this action strengthens national unity and ensures fair representation at the highest levels of government, leading to a "more balanced and harmonious Malawi."

​The statement concluded with the NDP wishing Second Vice President Chihana a tenure filled with wisdom, integrity, and service to all Malawians.

Fuel Prices Increase in Malawi Starting April 1 The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has announced new fuel prices that starts today on 1 April 2026, following a review by its Energy Pricing Committee. The authority explained that the changes were necessary because the international prices of petroleum products have increased in recent months. According to MERA, the price of petrol has increased from MK4,965 to MK6,672 per litre, representing a 34 percent increase. Teen Found Dead in Suspected Suicide in Masasa Township By Maggie Msongole A 17 Year-old boy, identified as Micca Gama, was found dead in a suspected case of suicide in Masasa Township, Mzuzu, on Monday morning.  Gama’s lifeless body was discovered inside his home with a deep cut to the throat, raising concerns and prompting an ongoing police investigation. According to initial reports, the teenager lived alone and had previously expressed suicidal thoughts to friends and neighbours particularly when intoxicated. On the morning of the incident, Gama reportedly left his home around 8 a.m. to drink alcohol and returned approximately two hours later. Not long after his return, neighbours reported hearing unusual noises coming from inside his locked house, which led to the tragic discovery.
